Course description: This one day course is intended to provide advanced clinicians with objective methods of evaluating bladder function and increased skill in bladder training.  Measured volume diaries can be used to determine global polyuria, nocturnal polyuria, small volume bladder, and other conditions.  Understanding bladder diary results is essential in creating effective treatment plans for patients with pelvic floor dysfunction.  Interactive format will be used to learn analysis and training techniques.  This course will not include other types of pelvic floor rehabilitation.

 

Course objectives:

Fully assess a measured volume bladder diary.
Determine when patients need further medical intervention based on bladder dairy results
Develop a bladder training program for complex OAB, urinary retention, and other urological conditions

 

Prerequisites: Participants should have some previous course work in conservative management of pelvic floor dysfunction.

Instructor

Dr. Beth Shelly, PT, DPT, WCS, BCB-PMD, completed her doctor of physical therapy at St Ambrose University, Davenport, IA in 2007.  Dr. Shelly has been working in the field of women’s health since 1985 and has authored 9 professional chapters and multiple articles.  Dr Shelly is one of the primary creators and past speaker for the APTA Section on Women’s Health Certificate of Achievement in Pelvic Physical Therapy courses. Beth has taught over 100 two or three day courses and given many more shorter lectures over the past 25 years in the field of pelvic rehabilitation to PT, OT, RN, NP, MD.  She is a member of the International Continence Society Standardization Committee, is the current editor in chief of the ICS wiki, and is an internationally known speaker in pelvic physical therapy and women’s / men’s health.  She is board certified in women’s health and biofeedback for pelvic floor dysfunction. Beth owns a private PT practice in Moline, IL were she treats outpatients with various pelvic floor, obstetric, and lymphatic dysfunctions.
